Comments: I've often wondered if there are any WWII Veterans
who served on the USS Whitehurst who knew my dad,
Norm Duncan. He was lost at sea during a kamikaze
attack in 1945, and although he was kept alive by
family and friends, and we had the same baseball
coach at Michigan State, all his siblings are now
gone as is my mom. If you knew him or of him I'd
love to hear anything. Thanks

Comments: My Dad LeRoy John Whitehurst was a Korean Prisoner of war
earned a purple Heart and was a double amputee...who raised 6
kids and was married to my mom for 48 years before he passed in
99 worst day of my life loosing my best friend whom was also my
best man in my wedding! Anyway I wonder if my Dad ever knew the
USS Whitehurst ever existed? He wasn't a man to speak of any
bad things that he exsperienced in life...so he didn't say much about
the war... He coached baseball from the oldest to me the youngest
and just enjoyed life... But the age of the Internet has allowed me to
discover this great power plant of a ship this was... I just wish my
Father was here to read all about it!

Comments: My Dad, John Scott was on the USS Whitehurst during the Korean War. He
was in the boiler room and has told not only me, but also his grand
children many stories of his service time. He served proudly and is still
proud of the Whitehurst, the crew and his service to this country. He
resides in Westerville, Ne and loves to hear from his navy buddies

Comments: Joined the USS Whitehurst in 1955 after training at Bainbridge co 66 then Radioschool. Met ship in Guam, tied up in Apra Harbor. Remained aboard til 1958. Then to Astoria, Ore.,Columbia River to decommission the USS Rombach. Finished with NASA Wallops Island Va.
