Comments: I am looking for information about my father's service. He was a sonarman on the PCEC 882 in 1951. They shipped out of San Diego, went to Japan and returned to Pearl Harbor where dad spent the rest of his time playing baseball for the Navy. My father died in 2003 and never spoke much about his service in either WWII or Korea. As a history teacher I would love to know more about his life. His name was James B Brannon but he went by JB or Jim.

Comments: I served on the PCEC 882 from March, 1949 to June, 1952. I went on board at Pearl Harbor..Patroled between Guam and Kwajalein for the Military Transport Service as a Weather Ship. Returned to the States, was in dry-dock in San Francisco. Went to Korea when war broke out.....Ship directed traffic at evacuation of Hungnam, Korea and later for the re-invasion at Inchon, Korea. Recall deer hunting on Xmas day in Korea along with three others in a Jeep. Ship had a collision with a Japanese fishing boat while traveling
in Japanese channels. Could use some help in refreshing my memory of names of shipmates during those times.

the time you specify. We were Bird-dog 4 out of Apra Harbor, Guam
at that time. Tom Duncan as I recall was a character, and a multi
tattooed GM.

If this rings a bell, let me know. We can share some memories that go
back almost 60 years.

Comments: My dad, Edwin J Burke, served on PCEC 882 in 1950-51. He went on to complete 34 years in the Navy, retiring in 1977 as a captain. He died in 1995 from lymphoma. Interestingly enough, he never told me what he and the ship did in Korea until after I had returned from serving in the first Gulf War (in 1st Armored Division, as a logistics officer). Fascinating stories of escorting LSTs into Wonsan. I would like to hear from anyone who remembers him.
