the comstock in `50,and evacuated to california for hospitalization. he mentioned to
meof the period at sea when the north korean navy claimed the comstock sunk. the
fighting c or the mighty c, the galloping ghost of the korean coast. he was proud of his
serving the navy as a petty officer electrician. i also remember one of his mates, kelly ,

Comments: I was a Marine with HMM 164 and sailed from Okinawa to Danang
aboard the Comstock when it took my CH46 A from Kadina back to
d'nam after the MOD program. I met up with an old friend and
buddy from St. Louis, Bayless High School who was a SEAL with
UDT 12, John T. 'Smokey' Young who happened to be on the ship.
There was another Navy guy with whom I befriended, Mike
C.Ferrell. We lost our engines in the middle of the South China
Sea on Thanksgiving so I spent the day in my rack at the water
line sick as a dog. The Comstock had a flat bottom and rocked
like a Tilt a Whirl even on a good day. Without engines, it was
a roller coaster ride for sure. Anyone remember or recall either
of those two fellah's. We played football in the Well Deck as I
remember.
