Comments: Trying to find out about the patch worn or any information about my Dad, James Logan Jr., he was a Frogman. I know he was in Ft. Pierce 2/1945 and later Maui, Hawaii and served in WWII and Korean War. He was also at the Naval Combat Demolition Training and Experimental Base, San Francisco, CA in Aug. 1945. He served from Sept. 1941-Nov. 1945., he went back in the reserves from Feb.51-May.52. One letter says he was on UDT #2, but this is on a personal letter and we don't know for sure. Anyone out there know anything?

I am deployed in support of Iraqi Freedoom and Enduring Freedom. Keep trying to get "down range" but my current boss keeps saying no. Oh well, I'll do the best I can here.

Also, I am researching a book on UDTs, 1945-1955, and welcome narrative contributions. The focus is on changes in methods and equipment over that time.

Comments: My step-dad passed away recently. He spoke little about his Korean War experience, but I know he started as a Navy Frogman/UDT, and did covert ops - POW rescues, recon behind the lines, etc. Said his orders used to come from the Department of State (OSD?) rather than through Navy channels. Once told me they were referred to as Truman's Boys, and there were two units - Fly 1 and Fly 2. They each had a tatoo of a fly on their calf. While cleaning his apartment out, came across a silver star, couple of bronze stars and 3 purple hearts. One puple heart was for a wound that required reconstructive surgery on his face, the other was for being pinned to the ground for days? with a bayonet. Naturally, nothing of the medals was on his discharge papers... does any of this sound familiar?

Comments: I'm trying to get information for my husband who was part of some of the first "frogmen" and did udt during 47, 48, 49 (i think). His discharge shows nothing about the covert operations nor any metals he received. His stay at Letterman doesn't show wounds; shows mononucleosis, of all things! I've been working on this for over 2 yrs.

I hope you've been able to find something! He was so young (signed up at 17)and never thought he'd be 74 and need VA benefits. He signed a waiver upon discharge to get out and gave up any help re: disability. They were a proud group of veterans and thought if they even came home, they were fortunate. It must be hard to see that far down the road. I have little information to share, but if enough of us look, who knows?

It's as if our government is now punishing those very people who gave so much for our freedoms. His name is Marvin L. Wittman. I work full time to keep our health insurance even though he is paralyzed, has congestive heart failure, esophogeal problems as well as prostate cancer. He needs me home. Any help you provide will be appreciated. Good luck with your search.

I know this is lengthy, yet how does one know when to quit? Thanks! Oh yes, he only remembers one mate with last name of McDonald. Has pretended it never happened and just dismissed that phase of his life.

I was in the Navy, my son is in the Marines and I have a daughter due to enter the USNA and I would like to create a family record, as it were. My dad never talked about his UDT activities much. This is what I know, he trained at Little Creek, VA. He was involved in covert operations, lost his swim buddy and was wounded himself. He received the Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation 4 times, the South Korean Presidential Unit Citation 4 times, the United Nations Medal and the Navy Occupation Medal. I'd like to know some more about his UDT assignment, what team, team mates etc. He once said out of his class of 60 only 17 remained.
There was one team mate that kept touch right after; its not much but his name started with "D" and he lived in Illinois. My dad also mentioned
"Doc" Shubert (Schubert?) and a Jim Parker. I think Jim was the swim buddy that was killed, I dont know, my dad didnt talk much about his UDT
days. The PCEC 873 patrolled the east coast from Canada to the Carribean. He was in hurricane "Carol" on the PCEC 873, memorable because he had met/married my mom (Carol) just before!
I would deeply appreciate hearing from anyone who served with and knew my dad either in the UDT's or on the PCEC 873.
Thank you for your time and assistance.

Comments: I'm intrested in hearing from anyone who remembers me from Team 5 during 1951-1953 era. Our skipper was LCDR Louis A. States; I was an enlisted man..friendly with Felix Kretchmer, Deever Cunningham, and a few others whose names escape me at this time.

Comments: My name is Kimberlee Mullaney, and I am looking for any information I can find about my grandfather, Dorsey Lee Henderson. I know that he served in the Korean War and that he was on an Underwater Demolition Team. I am interested in knowing which team he was on and also in finding anyone that may have known him. I have his social security number and also his USN number if these would be of help. If anyone knows how I would go about finding his team number it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Kimberlee Mullaney
