Comments: My dad is trying to get his VA benefits but unfortunately his files were in the 1973 fire in St Louis
The VA keeps denying his benefits and Purple Heart because they have no proof he was hurt in the Korean War
My dad stepped on a land mine and injured his leg and hip and also his hearing
If we can find someone who served with him and can remember him getting hurt it will help his case tremendously
My dads name is Alvin Hollingsworth and he was with the Army Rangers. He served from 1952-1953. He was hurt the early part of 1953.
If anyone can help he would very much appreciate it.

Comments: Hello,
My oldest brother told me that my father was with 13th Rangers I know that he was in the Army and had parachuted and landed in a jeep broke all of his teeth and his ankles. (it was a night jump)
My father passed away Easter Sunday March 23,2008.
He was laid to rest in the Veterans cemetery in Exeter R.I.
My father had stories that he had told us of his time in the service and of people he had never forgotten.
My father had Dementia at the end of his life and was very distressed when he spoke of people he lost and was mourning from his time in the Military.
(I guess in his mind) he visited a fellow soliders grave all of the time and he cried for him. Although we knew full well that he hadn't gone anywhere that day. He had one story about having caught on fire in the foxhole I believe because he was so close to it due to the fact that it was bitterly cold. And an African American man putting him out with his coat and of course saving his life.
He had another story of someone that carried pepperoni in the jacket and when things were bad He would give my father some of it I think just to lighten things up and my father told us how upset he was when this man was killed in action. When my step mother passed away (he was lost without her) and the Dementia was in it's begginings he would visit a friend that owned a junk yard -autos. and they would sit around and talk, when lunch time came they would invite him in for lunch and he would decline and sit in his truck to eat pepperoni, crackers and cheese.
I so wish that I could remember the names of these people in these storied but unfortunatley I do not.
It would have been nice to tell the families of these people how he had never forgot them and how somwhere inside him he grieved them still.
My father also spent time in Germany.
I would like to hear from anyone that this sounds familiar to. And would cherish any stories of him anyone would care to share. Thank you. Sophie
