Comments: Dad worked for the Reading. He has been gone a while but I have many pictures and papers to go through.
If anyone happens to know of him or served with him I am interested in any and all information. He was a double veteran so was 31 in 1951.
The man who convinced him and others from the Reading to join the Railroad Reserves was obviously misinformed. He said it would be easy money and they wouldn’t get never be called up. Except when you have to go first of course. He earned lifelong condemnation from my mother.

Comments: I served at the rail transportation office in Yong Dong Po. As asst. scheduler and records keeper. worked alongside guys from the 593rd TBRO who were on assignment to the 712th. I was there from Nov. 1953 to Jan. 1955. the compound where we were billotted was about a mile west of the RTO on the main road from Seoul to Inchon. I recall walking to the RTO and back each day through the Main Street of Yong Dong Po. I recall seeing skinned dogs hanging in the markets . I visited Seoul and Inchon and a couple R and R s in Japan. I am so lucky that I wasn!t sent to Korea earlier and have so much pride in the guys that served over there. God bless all of you that went there before me. I am 82 yrs old now and have been married to the same great gal that I married in October 1953 , a week before shipping out to Korea. By the way, I was sick as a dog for 16 days on that little boat ride from Frisco to sasebo, Japan. Good luck to you all. Cpl. Harold Denny

Comments: Looking for any army friends of my late brother, Richard Anthony Hartley. He was in Korea in 1954 - 1955 in the 712th Batallion.
He was stationed in Yoeng-Dung-Po and I believe he was in the MP for awhile, got Yellow-Jaundice from the water and was sent to Japan for a couple of months to a hospital to get better. He then was sent back to Korea for the rest of his time. I believe he was in a Supplies Unit for the rest of his time in Korea.
He passed away on Jan. 3, 2010. He was a good son, a good father, and a good brother to his two younger sisters. I am his youngest sister. I was 11 years old went he was shipped to Korea. If anyone has info I would like to share it with his daughter.
We are getting permission from the VA to have his remains buried with a service sometime this September in the Veteran's cemetary in NJ.
Any information would be much appreciated. I loved him very much.

Comments: I arrived in Korea in the spring of 1954 and was assigned to the 712th transportation Battalion of the 7th Division. This was a railroad battalion and I was stationed at Chunchon Korea as a Right of way Maintenance supervisor.
In September of that year our outfit received a call from headquaters that a VIP train was to come through our station the following day and that we were to give it a green ball. All traffic on our main line was to be put on a siding to let this train to pass by.
I was curious as to what was so important about this train. I found out the following day as this train, draped in black bunting slowly made its way through our yard.
As it passed it sounded its mournful horn as to symbolize a final salute to its precious cargo
I stood in silent respect as I counted sixty refrigerated cars making its way slowly to Busan and the final resting place of our brave service personell and our allies that made the surpreme sacrafice so that we can be free.
I made a promise there and then that I will never let the memory of their sacrafice be in vain. This war was called the forgotten war but I will never forget what I saw on that late summer day in Korea
