Comments: Hello!
To all my friends and buddies of the "Triple Nickel 555th Field Artillery" who served in Korea from 1952 to1953. I worked in the PX 555th Field Artillery Battalion Headquarters and met a lot of terrific guys while there. I'm proud to have served in the "Triple Nickel" and with you all. I've been trying to locate an old buddy who I served with, he was with the First Calvary but assigned to the "Triple Nickel" 555th Field Artillery Headquarters his name is Sgt. Richard Gilliam from Raleigh or Durham, North Carolina. I sure would like to hear that he and the other guys got home safe.

Comments: I am looking for friends of my father-in-law, Lt. John Albert Mercer Jr., who was killed in Korea in August of 1950. I would really love to chat to Lt. Col. John H. Daly, Col. John L. Throckmorton, and Cpl. Thurston. I am putting together a small book about John Mercer's life and would like to include more info about them. Please email me if anyone knows how to get ahold of them or how they are doing. I hope they are all happy and healthy.
I would also like to give all of our veterans a huge Thank You for all that you have done to serve our country. Our veterans are so underappreciated. I think you all are awesome and I will always remember Korea and the 555th.
Sincerely, Dawn Mercer

Comments: I arrived in Korea Oct '5l assigned to HHB, 24th Inf Div Arty as Intel NCO. In Jan '52 I was reassigned to the "triple nickel" where I stayed as 1SG of Btry B until rotation in September. There is one incident I like to recall that indicates one way in which trust and respect can be promoted between infantry and artillery. When we moved into the Punch Bowl area supporting the 25th Div our battalion commander visited our OP's in the forward positions. One infantry commander complained about a sniper that was causing them great concern. He was located at a far range, evidentally using an anti-tank rifle and well secluded in a large rocky area. Their mortars and recoilless rifle had been unsuccessful in silencing him. So, my CO had a fire mission called and after a few adjusting rounds called for a "battalion 3 rounds" (36 rounds in those days). They heard no more from that sniper.

Comments: I returned to CONUS from Korea aboard the USNS Marine Serpent in late December 1953. On board I met Capt Edward E. Waldron who had served with the 555th FA Bn attached to the 5th RCT. Capt Waldron was from Peoria, Illinois. I had attended high school with him there, but had not seen him for several years before we met on board the Marine Serpent. I later heard that he stayed on active duty after Korean service and may have attained rank of Lt Col. He died in Austin, Texas in February 1985. His name is listed in the Social Security Death index under SSN 360-16-2350.

After a 6 month search,I have just reunited two army korean vets who havent seen each other in 46 years. Carl Brown and George Domin. They were in the 555 FA BN together. They were reunited at a Madison Hospital on December 15th l999, complete with news, and newspaper coverage.
The bad news is that Carl Brown is in the hospital with 40% of his body burned. I have set up a Carl Brown Burn Fund at Tri City National Bank- 6400 S. 27th Street-Oak Creek WI 53154-1097 to help out with the many skin graphs and medical expenses, not to mention transport to and from the hospital when he gets out and a special bed that he needs at home.
We need your help. Please donate to this fund to help out an injured vet.
If you have any other questions about this reunion or this fund, I will try to get back to you A.S.A.P.
Thanks in advance for your help!
