Comments: I loved Vq-1 from day one I landed in Guam. Hell I even liked Guam. I love aircraft anyway, and loved to fly in the P-3. I loved everything about them. When I got there, the last of the Whales were leaving. I had the priveledge of being with VQ-1 for Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Our Role was very important, as many may have thought otherwise. Any Vq folks from 1989-1993 who would like to chat, hit me up.. Mike Schurman (AK3)

Comments: I'm finding out how really important this unit was. I've often wondered what became of all these men I served with and put my trust in when I was in the air.

Comments: I am proud to have served in VQ-1 and voluntered for the Danang detachment.I was an EC-121 aircrew man. I was wounded that morning when the main bomb dump blew up. I was about 20 to 30 yards from it as I was trying, on the squadron bus, to get a previously wounded person to a med station. Can anyone tell me where and when 2007's VQ-1 reunion will be held?

Comments: Perhaps my timeline doesn't fit into the Korean War Project, however I have proud to have served my country in peace time and in war time. Now 66 years old I find times have changed. I know the war in the Middle East & Iraq is not a popular war, but then neither was Vietnam or Korea, for that matter. I enlisted at age 17 and stayed in the Navy 10 years.

Comments: I have suffered with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The first thing I had to deal with was survivors guilt. I left the Liberty for duty in Hawaii. Being a CT like my brothers on the EC121M, shot down by the North Koreans in April of 1969,I was sworn to secrecy. When I was debreifed after being attacked by the Israeli's, I was told to never talk about it. Twothirds of our crew were killed or wounded. I was one of the first to be aware of what happened to the Pueblo and the EC121M flight. It only put more nails in my emotional coffin. God bless those who keep the memories alive. As the wall at NSA states, "THEY SERVED IN SILENCE". Keep up the good work. Comments:

In January 1951 I was one of the original 12 pilots that formed the unit
that eventually became VQ-1.

We were the Special Project Division of the Air Operations Department of
NS Sangley Point. We flew electronic reconnasiance along the entire
east coast of Asia including the Korean area.

I have located all of the original 12 and of the next 4 pilots who
joined us before going overseas except for Horace "Howdy" Taylor, Warren
"Bud" Britton, "Red" Farrell, and Kent Alexander. Anyone associated
with VQ is invited to join the VQ Association, e-mail me for details.
