Comments: I spent 6 months on the line with the 7th Division Aviation Section in 1951/1952 and was transferred to 2nd Log Comd in February 1952. I lived in Hialeah Compound in a quonset hut across from the junior officers ness.
I flew an L-19, a Navion and a Beaver from a small field about one mile from the Air Force K-2 airfield. Our mission was to transport 2nd Log personnel throughout the area generally south of Seoul although we occasionally had to transport visiting dignitaries up to units on the front line. There were only two pilots assigned to the Log Command so we were quite busy. I rotated to the US in September 1952 and was then stationed at Fort Lewis, WA.
We, there were two of us pilots assigned to the Log Command, flew a lot of missions to Koje Do island, about a twenty minute flight over water, during the prison riots and the subsequent separation of prisoners into smaller 500 man compounds at Koje and another area on the southwestern coast of Korea. Hope someone might enjoy hearing about this.
I returned to Korea in 1969 and commanded the 7th Division Aviation Battalion.
I retired from the Army in 1978 after an enjoyable time, doing generally what I liked to do . . .FLY. Of course, there were times when I was in other assignments.
