Do you have any information relating to a reunion of any of these
Korean War Era entities?
Flying school class 53-A
506th Strategic Fighter Wing
462 Strategic Fighter Squadron
Or a way I might contact members of those organizations? I served in
all three.
Class 53A was a pilot training class. I was part of it in Columbus
Mississippi. It started in January 1952 and ended in February 1953.
(the "A" designation means it was the first class to graduate in '53)
The 462nd Strategic Fighter Squadron was part of the 506th Strategic
Fighter Wing which was a part of the Strategic Air Command.
The wing was equipped with F-84G aircraft until the end of 1955 when it
became the first wing to receive the swept wing F-84F's. All of the
squadron aircraft were capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
The 506th was stationed at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor Maine till lthe
beginning of 1955 when the whole wing was transferred to Tinker Air
Force Base in Oklahoma. We went on rotational temporary duty (3 mos)
to Eilson Air Force base in Alaska.
Thanks

In Korea our class flew F-84, F-86, RF-80, RB-26, B-26, B-29, C-46,
C-119, T-6 aircraft.
My personal information relates to the 7th FBS later renamed 428th FBS
flying F-84's from K-2 at Taegu. Members of the class flew all types in
Korea.

Just surfing the WEB and came upon your page./thank you for your effort.
It was a very unglamorous was and gets very recognition today. Seems
that only the last war fought is remembered.
I flew with the 49th Fighter Wing at Taegu, Korea in l953. Was there
when the war was over. My flying class of 52G has an association that
meets every 2 years. We have over 200 members that usually attend.
Randy Presley, Mt Pleasant , /txis our operations officer and has a
wealth of information in case you are interested. His number is :

Thanks for the e-mail. Randy Pressley is our contact so I don't have any
As far as I can determine Michael J. Adams was a member of 52G class and
was also a member of the 80th FBS where he flew 49 combat missions in
Korea.
He was later killed during the X-15 test flight program on November 15,
1967. He was one of the early astronauts because he had flown to an
altitude of more than 50 miles above the earth's surface( an Air Force
Requirement to be awarded Astronaut Wings)
