I am looking for anyone who knew my father, William S. Britton
while he was stationed in Korea with the 7th of the 49th.
He was the crew chief of an F-80 from 1950-51 I believe.
I am particularly interested in contacting Robert (Bob) G.
Holloway AF15419305, and Charles R. Moore AF13268492.

I know that the 49th Wing has been around since WWII. They were based at
Misawa, Japan when my father was assigned to them, before their move to
K-2.
My father is unsure of the history before he joined up with them though.
The 49th Wing is still active at Holloman AFB in New Mexico. The 7th,
8th and 9th squadrons are also still active. The 7th being equipped
with F-117 Stealth Fighters. (One of which crashed at an airshow
recently).

My best friend 1/Lt Marce P.Dunn was in the 58th Fighter Bomber Wing and
the day that I flew my 100th mission and landed he was waiting with a
flight of 4 to take the active and did not make it back. I would like
to find out some information on him but I could not locate him on your
KIA information list. If you could tell me how to find any information
about him I would appreciate it. Thanks again, my check is in the mail.

Dear Don: I have read your messages on K2 in 51-52 period. I found
them very interesting since I arrived there March 53. Until now I
had no idea what life was like prior to then. I got there in the
49th Wing and we had the 84Gs. Your description of the flight
line, living quarters, and life in general was exactly as I found
it. All our airplanes were well maintained and the state of the
art for fighters at that time. We were over there when the war was
over on July 23,l953. We stayed on until we started rotating home
in December. Thank you for your most informative description what
it was like prior to our arrival.
Gratefully,

Dear Don:
When we first got there in March 53, we were in the 7th Sqdn, 49th
FB Wing. Later, we became the 428th Sqdn in the 474th FB Group of
the 58th FB Wing. At this time K2 had 2 groups in the 58th Wing.
6 Sqdns flew out of thisone base. I now realize what a busy place
this was. More next week. I'm going to the Rio Grande Valley this
week for a little R-R
