Brief Background

Some brief background: According to 'The Korean Air War' (Dorr and Thompson , 1994):

"On 16 March 1953, FEAF put to work its new concept of a fighter-bomber wing (reinforced) with some important changes in establishment designations (a USAF wing, as purists know, is an "establishment" and not a "unit").

Prior to this date, Teagu (alias K-2) had been home to both the 49th and 58th FBWs. Now, the two were consolidated into the 58th FBW (Reinforced)

The 49th FBW was replaced on 1 April by the 474th FBW consisting of the 428th, 429th and 430th FBSs. This confusing adjustment was accomplished for the purpose of easing maintenance and support problems."

On this same date, 10 July, 1952, the 474th Fighter Bomber Group and

Fighter Bomber Group and it's 3 Squadrons would remain at Kunsan (K-8)
until 1 April, 1953, at which time it would be transferred to Taegu
(K-2). This movement was a paper move only, with the personnel and
equipment remaining at Kunsan (K-8).

On this same date, 1 April 1953, the 49th Fighter Bomber Group and it's
3 Squadrons, the 7th, 8th, and 9th at Taegu (K-2) would transfer to
Kunsan (K-8) on paper without personnel and equipment.

The 428th became the 7th, the 429th became the 8th, and the 430th became
the 9th Fighter Bomber Squadrons.

I'm a public affairs officer with the USAF Air Combat Command's
Community Relations Branch. I'm contacting this webpage on behalf of
Korean War veteran Mr. Leonard Greenblatt of Los Angeles, CA who called
our office seeking info about the 474 F/B Group, 428, 429 and 430th
Squadrons at Kunsan and Tageau from 1952-53.

He asked for the unit histories or any info available. I have his
address and phone #. Thanks for your help in advance.
