On Sun, 9 Mar 1997 Jerry Connors added:In 1952 the 49th Fighter Bomber Group was at Taegu with F-84s. The Wing Commander was Col. David T. McKnight Feb. 1952-Aug 1952; Col.Robert J. Rogers Aug 1952-Apr. 1953.
There was an F-84 outfit there earlier that I believe was still there in 1952. They had Recon aircraft. No guns, only cameras, but I think they would have carried another designator other than FS.

HEADQUARTERS FAR EAST AIR FORCES APO 925 GENERAL ORDERS) 8 March 1951 : NUMBER 93) DISTINGUISHED UNIT CITATION As authorized by Executive Order 9396, 22 November 1943 (Sec I, WD Bul 22, 1943) superseding Executive Order 9075, 26 February 1942 (Sec III, WD Bul 11, 1942), the following unit is cited under the provisions of Air Force Regulation 35-75, 7 August 1950, in the name of the President of the United States as public evidence of deserved honor and distinction. The citation reads os follows: The 49th Fighter-Bomber Group is cited for extraordinary heroism and fidelity during the period 27 June to 25 November 1950. The 49th Fighter-Bomber Group especially distinguished itself as the first jet fighter organization to operate actively in the combat field. This operation, unparalleled in the history of the Air Force, extended the effective striking range of the F-80 aircraft in excess of 200 miles over the previous operations from air bases in Japan. The resulting increases in combat sorties, savings in fuel and ability to remain over enemy territory for greater periods were inestimable contributions to the United Nations effort. The outstanding service rendered by this organization while flying over 9,664 combat sorties in close support of the United Nations forces is strikingly demonstrated by the following record of damage and destruction inflicted on the enemy: 27 aircraft, 239 tanks, 105 vehicles, 94 locomotives, 1,706 rail cars, and 2,900 miscellaneous targets including bridges, supply dumps and vessels. Despite the necessity of relocating assigned units on four separate occasions, the 49th Fighter-Bomber Group has provided continous combat effort with undiminished effectiveness. Valuable information relative to capabilities, limitations and behavior of jet fighter aircraft under actual combat conditions was compiled by this organization, materially increasing subsequent operational effectiveness in the Korean conflict and providing standard organizational procedures for future operations. The arial achievements of this organization are reslendent with repeated acts of heroism, gallantry and high personal courage. The impressive total of 17,625 combat hours flown by this organization is indicative of the high caliber and skill of maintenance and ground personnel. Operating under adverse and hazardous conditions on a continuous daily schedule, the officers and airmen of the 49th Fighter-Bomber Group performed in such a manner as to reflect the greatest credit on the or- ganization, the Far East Air Forces, and the United States Air Force.
