Comments: I'm looking for information on a R.C. Miller. I'm honestly not completely positive on the last name. I purchased an M1 helmet, and a paper label was inside the liner, and the first letter of the last name is missing, however the name appears to be Rally C. Miller. Also, there is a small decal on the liner, and its has the serial number of a particular helicopter. The number is 127828, and this helicopter is actually preserved in the National Museum of the United States Marine Core. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks 😊

He is credited, in Korea, with leading the first Helicopter attack in military history. He won the Silver Star and a Purple Heart there. I believe it was called operation Hoseburner and was at the end of October, 1951.

Comments: I am a MGySgt currently assigned to MALS-31, MCAS Beaufort. Many years ago I came across a water-color painting signed Haff KOREA 1952 and titled DAMNED MARINE CORPS AIRBORNE ROAD JOCKEYS. It has tree branches and a 3rd Bn 7th Marine sign caught in the skids.
I am hoping to find someone that might know something about the origin or history of this painting.

am a Canadian naval historian writing an article on his

provide some recollections of his time with HRS-161.
Roger Fink did well by his USMC experience and proved
instrumental in bringing helicopters into Canadian naval

Comments: I am currently researching the military career of Maj. Sherman Melvin "Red" Tandvig, who among other units, served with HMR-161 in Korea, flying HRS helicopters. Tandvig also served as one of the peace delegation pilots, flying Allied military personel to the peace talks inside North Korean held territory.
Tandvig, while serving with HMR-163, served as one of two pilots who flew the Chief of Police of the Pasadema Police Department over the 1952.1953 Rose Parade, providing the first ever helicopter traffic control for the police department.
If anyone has any additional information regarding Mr. Tandvig, I would enjoy hearing from you.

Comments: Thanks for my life to surgeons at MedEvac 121 and to pilots and crews of 15 Helicopters of HMR161 who brought us in very badly needed ammo, and from lessons and policies set in Nicaragua in 1928, took out 74 of us severe casualties. Id ceratinly like to know if any logs, records, passenger flight manifests etc were kept of the transport of the casualties. Who decided_ Where did you get those seemed to me like shipboard stretcher (chicken wire) baskets? I had taken somne stuff through horns and had rt horn eye etc knocked off and was fortunate that the only neurosurgeon in Korea was there at Yong Dong Po. Thanks guys, Just my pensions and health care has been a part of high price and cost of that piece of real estate, Those North Koreans were well dug in, had every step zeroed in with buried mortars--- and were well equipped! Lack of air support was very noticed! Tank artillery helped us! But HMR161 save me and probably lots more with that ammo!

Comments: I started playing with the computer about 4
years ago and have been trying to find
something that would let me talk with
someone that was with HMR-161 from it's
inception. I Met Moses M. Kourey at Cherry
Point's 50th anniversary and reunion of VMF
(n) 531. "Mo" was on the "Canal", in Korea
and served 2 tours in Viet Nam. He had a
heart attack 2 weeks before going back to
Nam for the 3rd tour. I know where Vern
Selberg is as we call one another once a year.
He is in North Minneapolis.
I sure would enjoy talking with any one that
was at LTA and on the Sitkoh Bay.

Comments: We are researching the history of the Sikorsky HO5S (S-52) aircraft. We hopefully will soon be acquiring BuNo 130122 for restoration to flying status. Our organization's goal is to fly this aircraft in honor of all Korean War Vets. Please contact me if you have ANY information or contacts related to the HO5S aircraft. Thank you.
