Comments: Ismael Vigil listed on the above list is my father-in-law. He is still alive - 75 years old, and now lives in Denver, CO. He served in the Army during this time frame and he is the only Ismael Vigil that I know of from Ocate, NM during this time frame. So I am sure that this is him. He returned to Ocate, NM. when he got out of the Army and married a woman named Senaida Trujillo. They have been married now for about 53 years. I married their oldest child/daughter Jessie. Ismael moved to Denver back in the early 50's. Where he and his wife raised 5 children. Could someone get in touch with me and then I will share whatever with Ismael. I am not only his son-in-law...I also am his Pastor. Thank you! Pastor Ronald W. Acker

Ismael spent some time during the was in Japan. He still remembers some of the Japanese that he learned there

Comments: I do not know how I ended up on this list. I was with the 27th Supply Sq. not the Installation Sq. I will respond anyway. I was at Matagorda Island for a short period of time to set up an ammunitons supply warehouse. I joined the unit at Kearney, NB in 1948 and stayed with it until my discharge in 1952. I did go to Korea with it in 1950. I attended the College of Pharmacy, Univ. of Georgia from 1952 until 1956.I worked as a pharmacist for about 10 years in Fla, Ga, and Tx. I returned to U.of Ga. graduate school to get a Ph.D. degree. After that, I taught at the College of Pharmacy at the U. of Ark. for 24 years. I retired in 1995 and live in McKinney, TX. I have been married for 48 years, have 4 children, and 8 grandchildren.I have been in contact with only two people from the outfit. Emile Weeks served over 20 years and retired in Austin, TX and then worked for the postal service. Bobby Richmond served one tour and moved to his hometown of Pocatella, ID where he has retired.

Comments: About 1949 while the 27th FEW were still flying the F-82, Mrs. Lena B. Grubb of Fort Worth, TX came to Bergstrom AFB and Matagorda Island to make a year book of the unit.

That publication is one of my most prized possessions. I often wonder where all the troops are now.

I am in touch with only two of the Installation Squadron personnel. I spoke to Ted Barker of KWP and he said placing the Inst. Sq. folks on the KWP could prove interesting.

The following is a list of personnel at the Book's about 1949 period. Most of us in this group would go into the Korean War in 1950. If you know anything about anyone in the list I'd like to know. I'll pass the info around as I receive it, thanks!

Comments: I joined the 27th at Kearney, Nebraska in 1948. I remained with the Wing to Bergstrom AFB, two tours at the Wing's gunnery range at Matagorda Island, Kunson (K8), Korea, and was discharged out of the Air Force in 1953.

I returned to the Air force in 1962 and completed thirty years service retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. I often take out my Bergstrom Year Book and look at old memories.
