Comments: I was stationed at Camp Casey with E Co 5/20 INF from February 1991- February 1992. I had two room mates there, one was a U.S. soldier named PVT Schultz, the other was a KATUSA by the name of CPL Ko. CPL Ko had a KATUSA supervisor named SGT Jung. I only know CPL Ko by his family name, I do not remember his given name.
I'll try not to sound too dramatic, but this is a difficult subject. My U.S. Army room mate periodically attempted to or did humiliate CPL Ko. I was a stupid young man with no compassion at the time for CPL Ko, even though he attempted many times to befriend us and was very kind. I have felt guilty for the last twenty five years and would like to formally and respectfully apologize to CPL Ko and his family for my apathy toward the way he was treated. I also want to apologize for my lack of compassion and participation in any attempt to make fun of or humiliate CPL Ko. He did not deserve our cruelty.
Since that time, and out of a desire to make amends in my own way, I have immersed myself in Korean culture, history, and food. This is my way of trying to understand CPL Ko's homeland and attempt to understand people from Korea better. I'm not saying this to impress anyone, I just wanted to communicate my sincerity in wanting to display my deep regrets for any part I had in affecting CPL Ko's life in any negative way.
I know this is a long shot and it will probably be very hard to find this man. I will attempt to find him for the rest of my life; it is the honorable and right thing to do.

A Korean War Veteran asked me to help find Mr. Chae in order to invite him to The Outpost Harry Survivor's Association 19th Annual Reunion in San Diego this summer.
I know there is probably one in a million chance of finding Mr. Chae but I would really like to help this Korean War Veteran find him. They were very good friends during the war and shared the same sense of humor and outlook on life despite cultural and language barriers.
The only info I have on Mr. Chae is that he served at Outpost Harry and is probably around 70 years old.
If you have any leads or can recommend other sites that can find veterans, please contact me. I'd really appreciate it.

Comments: During the last Chinese offensive in July 1953, The ROK Army took the burnt of the offensive. The ROK Capital Division began to fall back but was hit by enemy forces at this time causing units to fall back farther than intended.
One of the 21 strong points survived because of Lt. Col Kim. He rallied those ROK soldiers who were willing to fight into the bunker complex.
Inside this bunker complex was an American 3 man FAC (forward air controller) and an American 28 man unit testing battlefield radar with AA weapons.
The combination of guts, leadership with a little bit of help by air and artillery support guided by radar at night and in the fog, saved this unit from being wiped out.
