Comments: Hello, I'm looking for information and friends of my grandfather Robert C Wright (Bob)? He passed away January 18th 2015 at the age of 78. I remember him telling me stories and jokes from his days in the service. He retired from the coast guard but served in the navy as well. I know he was on the Jupiter around the 50s. Comments: To the honorable veterans of the USS Jupiter: Greeting to you all, a distant relative of mine (before passing) gave me the (lead) USS Jupiter Hull Symbol (original piece that was probably in the forecastle or the bridge). I have recently restored it (there was probably a dozen layers of old paint on it). I have now completed it and box-framed it for viewing. My father was stationed on board the USS Crook County (611) and I am a veteran of the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). He boarded Jupiter once for a radio problem, but I wanted people to know that the Jupiter legend lives on - and this piece didn't get destroyed!

Comments: While working on my genealogy I requested my Dad's(Ronald E Huck) military papers as he had passed away in 1979. After boot camp he was stationed aboard the USS Jupiter from 1/8/46 -5/20/47. Then to the USS Princeton 7/3/47-7/23/48. His best friend was Ginnatasio from Boston MA. Ginny saved his life (as their story went) when some boat they were on went down. They were adrift a number of hours. They remained friends the rest of their lives. I am trying to put those pieces together. He was only 17 when he joined the Navy in 1945. Any vet's out there possibly remember him?

Comments: My father served aboard the USS Crook County during the Korean War, he had friends aboard the Jupiter too. I served aboard Enterprise (CVN-65). I recently came across the Jupiter's Ship Insignia Plate that has it's shield/motto. It was made of lead and I restored it, had a lithograph of the Jupiter made and then put it all in a box frame. It holds an honorable place in Dad's home and in our hearts.

Comments: I served as a hospital corpsman on the USS Jupiter throughout 1953. The other corpsman was Max Schroeder and the ship's doctor Saul Ellesh.
The ship transported a load of ammunition from Hong Kong to Taiwan. Does any one remember that trip?
Other crew members were Orsinelli (fire controller)and Harder (Bossun's mate 2nd class.
Two best friends were Robert (Bob) and James (Jim) Wright who were tweens from Monterey, CA. Any one know where they are?

Hi Bob, well it has been a long time but I have never forgot the times on the Jupiter AVS 8 being a deck ape was hard dirty work but I liked it, I would not change anything, I grew up there being only 18 at the time and thinking what a great place to be not many people get to see the country's we seen,I called Coon about four years ago he lives in Oregon and was doing well I also tried to call Gene Atchley he was from Alabama I was told he died, I also talked to Nick Petruskin and Mike Martinez they live in Ca. Raymond H. Miller and I have been life long friends since boot camp 1959 Ray got out of the navy and joined the Army for 16 years Him and Massingham became cooks on the jupiter Charles Pratt, Nick Petruskin, Fred Cannahan, Mike Martinez, and Massingham.
