Comments: Just wonder if anyone remembers me that served on the USS Graffias (AF29) from 1964-1966 who might have deployed to Vietnam doing replenisments in support role in the Da Nang harbor area. I remember we always replenished supplies to the USS Krishna a converted LST to a repair ship. Please send me an email. I need to justify that we were in Vietnam and we could have been expose to Agent Orange. The USS Niagara Falls (AF-2) was listed as a support ship doing the same job the Graffias was doing in Vietnam and it is listed by the VA as a support ship. Thanks.

Comments: I was aboard the Graffias from March, 63 to December, 64. The last 12 months I was aboard, I was in the Shippfitters Shop. The boss was Spence,SF1.
We had a skilled and smooth working crew for underway replenishments. We also had steam winches which never broke down. The warships we serviced had electric winches which were forever breaking down.
Some of the unusual things I remember are:
1)We slammed into a navigation bouy on our way into Kobe harbor. We went to General Qurters to ckeck the damage
2)We sailed to the assitance of a russian submarine. This turned out to be a false alarm. We had a seaman (Afanisev) who spoke fluent Russian. He was called to the radio room to interpret for the Captain
3)We very nearly steamed into the stern of an LST after an underway replenishment. Just missed by a few yards.

Comments: Spent 3 months in Baltimore getting ship ready for commissioning. Have memories of great crew
and the fine job done by all hands in supplying
the fleet. Left ship in April 1946, think it was
Ulithi or Majuro along with about 12 others. We returned to
Pearl on 3 LCI's as part of their limited crews at 6 knots per hr. Quite a difference from the
normal Graffias cruising speed of 15 knots.
We had a great musical unit under Texeira,(a cook)
which performed for us at intervals at sea.
Have become a pacifist as a result of our tour
of Nagasaki in September 1945. Supply officer,
Warren Jenney, and disbursing officer, Bob Fabrizio, Dixon, warrant and other fine young officers made for a fine crew. Original skipper was Bernard Caraher, replaced by Doolin after 1st voyage. Would like to hear from any crew members.
