Comments: My father, Sidney Arthur Oakley (aka "Pancho"), and my uncle (his brother), Earl Henry Oakley (aka "Tex"), served aboard a U.S merchant ship in late 1950 which was boarded by Communist North Korean Forces. They, along with the rest of the crew, were captured and imprisoned as POWs. I have no firm dates, nor locale, for their capture. Family lore has it that they were released through efforts of the U.S. State Department and the Red Cross. My first name derives from one of their shipmates who was killed in captivity. Story has it that the prison camp utilized Russian guards, among others. Any information to help fill out the story would be appreciated. Thank you.

Comments: There were four C 4 ships. Pine tree, Free State, APA 248 and AKA 112. Enter C 4-S-1a mariner in your search engine for info but no photos. The Pine Tree became the luxury liner Mariposa in 1957. APA 248 was the USS Paul Revere, and AKA 112 the USS Tulare.
Hope this helps a little in your search.

They were both built in 1952 and sailed during the Korean War for the Korean War. I've searched many private and US government sites in vain. I hope someone can direct me to find that photo or provide it to me if they have one. I would appreciate that greatly.

Comments: My dad was Crew Chief of C-119 S/N ending 537 at Ashiya AB, Kyushu, Japan. My family lived in housing at Kokura Army base next to the military jail facility. I remember exploring many times the air raid tunnels there, and going to the pagoda on top of the hill next to the housing area. I remember that my dad lacerated his hand severely on an aircraft surface in I believe Pusan and almost bled to death as it was so cold that he could not feel the injury until someone told him he was bleeding. Prior to that time, he was also the Crew Chief for the aircraft at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio that Ace Major Richard I. Bong crashed in and was killed. My dad was supposed to have been on that flight, but for unknown reasons had stayed on the ground that day.

Comments: I am interested in any information on this organization. They issued $1.00, $5.00, and $10.00 bills with the value on the front flanked by 2 seahorses. On the back of the notes is a ship under full sail flanked by 8 point compass.
The notes were printed sometime after january 5, 1950. I have three of the $1.00 values and all came from the Pacific basin.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
