Comments: My father is Jerome (Jerry) Walsh who served in Korea in the 36th Engineers Combat Group, Korea 1951-1953. He is 89 years old and I am looking for information on his experience there, to both understand those years and give him information about former comrades.
He remembers Sam Allen, Joe Skoecelos and John Finlayson, but his memory is vague.

Any information feel free to contact me at peggywalsh@comcast.net

Thanks much!

Peggy

Comments: I am attempting to reconstruct my father's service
record while serving in Korea during the war. According
to Department of the Army, all of my father's service
records were destroyed in the St. Louis fire. My father
has always been very reticent regarding his Army
service. All I have to work from is a woefully
incomplete copy of his DD214. According to it, my
father, SGT(T)Martin R Goldshine most significant duty
assignment was with the 82nd Engr Petr Distr Co. He
apparently spent 11 months and 18 days in foreign
service. Only 2 awards are listed; the Good Conduct
Medal (followed by "GO 4 36th Engr C Gp 1951) and the
Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars. As I
understand it from my research, the 5 service stars
indicate that he participated in 5 campaigns. Even
though I am also an Army veteran, there is much more on
his DD214 that is a mystery to me. Any information
about his service in Korea or where I might go to get
further information would be greatly appreciated. He is
in his 80's now and I am trying to put together
something to commemorate his wartime service..

Comments: My cousin Pvt. Donald E. Winters of the Headquarters Company, 36th Engineer Combat Group died in South Korea. Before serving his country he had been drafted by a major league baseball team. He died on July 18, 1953 of hemorrhagic fever at the 121st MASH.

Before his death he and his buddies had made a makeshift baseball diamond to play on. After his death the baseball field was "officially" named after him. The family has a photograph of the sign. Years later another family member in the service said the sign on that baseball field in Korea was still there. I was wondering if anyone knows whether it still exists.

desperation of men who were discharged sick with life and bitter at wives who deserted them at home. Some of our own troops stabbed and raped each other. One AWOL man called me a liar and put down my throat a loaded carbine with full bannana clip. When on Sundays we took to the puckerbrush we walked by old soldiers bones. We only walked where the civilians dared, because where they blew up on the bouncing betties, we lived in their footsteps another day.
