I am interested in knowing more about Vegas Hill and what sort of insignia he would have worn when discharged. He was attached to the 1st Marine Div FMF and 1st Med Bn. Was 1st Med a standalone unit or attached to one of the regiments at that time? Answer: According to my dad it was attached to the 2nd Battalion of the 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He mentioned he was in Dog Company and saw some pretty heavy fighting at Vegas Hill. Also mentioned two other outposts as Reno and Carson. I hope this is helpful. Looking forward to any info the "mud Marines" can provide.
