Trying to locate any references to my uncle, Carl West, who was a
gunner on a B-29 that was shot down near Korea in 1951 (1952?).
Unit(s) of assignment?? etc.

It happened on the 23rd of October 1951 to make a bombing run on an
airfield at NAMSI, North Korea. After being attacked by MIG's, the
pilot headed to fly over water to reduce risk of capture. At that point
the pilot gave the order to bail out.

On board that day were 13 men:
1. My uncle, Cpl Carl E. West
2. Pilot- Capt Shields
3. Capt. Smith (survivor)
4. Sgt Cross (survivor)
5. Cpl Stainbrook (survivor)
6. Capt. Emil B.A. Goldbeck (survivor and author of letter)
7. Lt. James Vretis
8. S/Sgt Joseph Dougherty
9. Lt. Col. Julius O'Neal
10-13. unknown

Appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks, Scott Shafer
