My father was an aerial photographer on the ship, and I was interested
in any of the missions or stories about the ship. His name is Frank J.
Tierney.
It's mission during the war, any battle information, is it still in
service etc . . I'd would love to get some kind of biography of the
ship to keep in my book collection.
Do you know where I can find information on it ? Any information will be
greatly appreciated, thank you !

I would like to find any sailors who served aboard the USS Tarawa
CVA-40 from during 1953 until 1954. I was in VF-102 as part of
CAG-10(before it became ATG-201).
We received the Presidential Unit Citation for NEVER missing a
sortie over Korea!!
We were sending at least six groups of four aircraft over the
peninsula each day we were "on-the-line"; Meaning while we were in
the Sea of Japan. We, usually spent 10 days "on-the-line" and 10
days in Yokosuka for repairs. We often needed new wood for the
flight-deck after our banged-up aircraft came back!
We had three other squadrons aboard and rescue aircraft.
