So far there have been six annual reunions for the Kenneth Whiting crew.
These reunions are very well done and well attended. Many of the plank
owners show up every year along with us members of later crews. This
year's reunion is going to be held in May, 1999 at Lancaster, PA. The
reunion host is George Woods.

Hi Shipmate,

My name is William A. Brink and I served on the good ship Kenneth
Whiting on the 53-54 cruise to Iwakuni, Japan. During this time frame,
we made several trips to Sangley Point, Sasebo, and Yakishima island.
Most of our cruise was spent in Iwakuni Bay where we supported VP-47.

I was transferred to the Kenneth Whiting from VR-3 sometime in 52 or 53
and served in the V-3 division. My rate at that time was AE-3. From the
Kenneth Whiting I was transferred TAD to VP-47 for several months.

I made second class in VP-47. After VP-47, I returned to the Kenneth
Whiting for the remainder of the cruise. We returned from Iwakuni late
in the year of 1954 and I was transferred to VS-21 at Brown Field.

Other plank owners that I am in e.mail contact with are:

John Potthoff jonpott@flash.net
"Hal L. Akridge" paiha331@surfsouth.com

These old Sailors are plank owners and are in touch with many of the
past crew members. They would be happy to hear from any one with
interest in the good ship U.S.S.Kenneth Whiting AV14.

I was on the staff of Fleet Air Wing Six headquartered on the Kenneth
Whiting in support of P5M and P2V squadrons.at Iwakuni, Japan during
1953 and part of 1954. We deployed from Alameda Air Station for a six
months tour which was later changed to a year for personnel, but Iwakuni
was made home port for the Staff while the Kenneth Whiting came back to
the States.

Capt. Alden Schwartz was the Commodore, Hal Boutte the Administrative
Officer. I would enjoy hearing from anyone who served on the Staff
during that time. I was Ass't. Administrative and Personnel Officer.

This message is concerning my father , Kenneth O. Mcpherson, who served
in the Korean war on the ship called Kenneth Whiting.

Could you please help me find some information of the crew members and
some facts about this ships experiences along with maybe some pictures.

My father has just recently passed away and I was hoping to be able to
run across some things he went through while on board this ship. I think
it was Kenneth Whiting. Thank you for any help you can give me.
