Hello Mr. Barker. In looking at your "looking for" web page I could not
find my dad's unit listed, the 409th Engineer Brigade. My father,
Daniel Levi Moreau, died about 25 years ago and it wasn't until recently
that I came across some old service letters showing reassignments,
medical evacuations, and a letter dated 18 April 1951 ordering him to
active duty from reserve status. He spoke very little about his Korean
War experiences. He did mention once that his outfit built a bridge
that was destroyed when a plane crashed into it. Here's a chronology I
have been able to piece together from official letters.

18 June 1951. In California with the 409th as a PFC (letter of 18 June
1951) at Fort MacArthur.

13 August 1951. Letter titled Special Orders #223 and "Restricted" with
letterhead of Headquarters, 10th Station Hospital, APO 301. Sgt Daniel
Moreau (CAU) ER39129283. Listed with a group of other soldiers, there's
a bunch of abbreviations that are hard to decipher but it sounds like
they got reassigned from a medical hold back to active duty. He was
sent to HQ Co, 409th Engr Brigade.

31 August 1951. Letter titled Special Orders #73 with letterhead of HQ,
409th Engineer Brigade, APO 59. More abbreviations, but I think he was
sent to H/H company of the 409th for a 3 week construction assignmntn
TDY Ulsan, Korea, Outport-No-2.

9 October 1951. Letter titled Subject: Notice of Evacuation, from HQ
Eighth US Army KOREA (EUSAK) APO 301. He is reported as evacuated from
HQ company of the 409th to Japan on 26 September 1951, from 3d Station
Hospital.

Apparently his service in Korea was for only 3 months. He was in Japan
until 1956, then we came back to the US when he got a medical retirement
in 1960. I'm sorry for all of the detail, but if it helps jogs
someone's memory, I would be interested to hear from anyone who served
in the 409th during that time period, especially if they knew my dad.
At the time he would have been 35 years old. Height: 5' 8", weight 180,
black hair, stocky, muscular build.
