The Korean memorial is a final resting place for the my uncle, first
generation American born, who fought for the world's freedom. My
mother's brother, Uncle Jerry DeFlora, rests his troubled soul among
the statues. His body rests at Pinelawn National Cemetery, New York.
He was 19 years old when he died during the Korean War. He and I
share the February 16 birth date. I was a year old when he died in
1951. I do not know if he got to see me. I see him when I look upon
my cousin's face.

I felt his presence from a doting grandmother. As he touches out to be
remembered, I will vote for freedom to keep his patriotic spirit alive.
Any military information is appreciated.

I wanted to write and thank you again for your previous and most
helpful assistance in regards to obtaining information on my uncle,
Sgt. Lawrence Joseph Robidoux.

The DA 52-1 specifies that information received on Nov. 2, 1953
that on May 31st 1951 my uncle died while in the hands of opposing
forces in Korea. In the location block it says "Korea XC17810960.

Peanuts Mc Gee

Ted,

My father served in the Korean War. He made it home only to have
three children in 1956, 1958, & 1961, then die in a car accident in
1963 at age 33. He was Elvis Carnell MCGEE, and he did receive a
"Purple Heart" while in Korea.

But, he had a first cousin, William Reeder "Peanuts" MCGEE
born 25 Jul 1930, who was missing in action in Korea. He evidently was
declared dead on 8 Sep 1951, but his mother believed he was
 still alive until she died.

Is there any way of finding out what circumstances led to his being
declared KIA? Not positive, but think both were in the army. The
family has always wondered what really happened to him.

Thanks,
Donna MCGEE Holman

The Dpt of Defense completed an exhaustive study of MIA last
winter (Nov) and we are waiting to receive that report/database
to include on our pages.

You may go to the Crystal City offices of DPMO in DC to examine
the MIA/POW file personally.

William was in the 35 Inf Rgt of the 25th Inf Div. He evidently was
wounded on Sept 8,1951 and went MIA. Usually that meant that during
action a severe fight occurred and men were not able to be retrieved
from the battle. He was declared dead of hostile action while missing.

I am writing in reference to a buddy by the name of Keating. I do not
know his first name, and I'm not sure the spelling is correct.

However, he was killed in the winter of 1952 on the North Rim of the
Punch Bowl. I am curious to know how his family was informed of his
death.

He was in the 25th Division 35th Regiment 2nd battalion E Company, 2nd
Platoon.

Another option is, there is the outside chance he survived. This is
most unlikely, because a grenade exploded within inches of him, and it
blew his stomach and chest open. I and the platoon medic patched him
up as best we could, loaded him on a litter and passed him on to some
other medics.

The rest of the information is correct insofar as the location and
unit, the reason I want this information is I thought I would like to
visit his family and explain his death if indeed he did die.

The circumstances was this. There were two to a bunker and it was so
cold we traded off every other hour so we could crawl back in the hole
and try to warm up. He was on duty and he said he thought he saw some
gooks coming toward us, and asked me if he should throw a grenade at
them?

I told him go ahead, but to throw the handle and all after pulling the
pin. I heard him pull the pin and I heard the pre-detonator go off
while still in the bunker. I will never know if he dropped it or if
he froze or what happened because the grenade exploded right in front
of him. I was laying on a dirt shelf behind him, so I was not hurt.

It just caused some temporary deafness, and after a moment or two I was
able to function.

If my memory serves me correctly, he was from the state of Iowa. I am
the only person that was with him and I have often wondered if there
was something I should or could have done differently.

Sincerely,
Ruben Leroy Carlson

But unfortunately he died while we were carrying him. Thank you for

Hi,
My father Frank Persampieri was in Korea in 1951and 1952. He died when I
was a young child so I really didn't get a chance to ask him about some
of the campaigns he fought in while he was in Korea. I noticed on his
DD-214 that they have a box that states the most significant action saw.

They typed in 1812 Co "M" 35 INF. Regiment. I also see that he recieved
the Korean Service medal w/2Bronze service stars and the combat infantry
award badge per so 54 Hq 35th Inf Regt 16 May 1952. I was hoping if you
could tell me what type of battles he fought in. I do recall he said he
fired motars.

Thanks for your help.
