He did not die on 28 January 1952, incidentally--it was sometime in
June of that year. He was killed with grenade shrapnel on Old Baldy.

He was from Jackson, MI, and was in Charlie Co., 179th Inf., 45th Div.

I was a PFC with the 2nd Battalion, 179th Infantry while on line from 27
Oct 1952 to 22 Dec 1952. I am reviewing maps and command reports that I
obtained from Archives II at College Park, MD. I am writing a history
of my experiences for my children and gchildren. During that period,
as a PFC, I was at first an intelligence and reconnisance scout in the
Hdq Co and then on 15 or 16 Nov when a 5th rifle platoon was created in
G Company I was assigned to that unit as a rifleman.

Each of the three batallions added an extra platoon to one of its
companies. It is fascinating and also sad reading the 179th Inf command
reports for that period. When I am finished , I will send a copy to any
other vet of that unit at that time, at no charge.

It is very interesting working with the 1:25K and 1:50k maps. A map
with the battalion or regiment trench (MLR) drawn on it would be a help.

Jump School, and Ranger School at Ft. Benning, GA. As I recall, 1st Lt

after I got there.

My platoon sergeant was Sgt Rhoades, twice awarded the Silver Star and

why I am still alive today. I believe I had the 2nd Platoon and a Lt.
Seals from a little town in Georgia had the 1st Platoon. He was KIA on
patrol one night and his platoon got shot up pretty bad. I can't
remember the 3rd platoon leaders name but he also like Lt. Seals was a

I was there from June 1952 to August of 1953. From June to Aug of 1953
I was 45th Div Honor Guard Commander for Maj Gen P.D. Ginder. Two of
his staff officers were Col Seitz and Col Alger. When I left Korea I
