I am writing looking for anyone that knew my Daddy. He passed away September 29,2000.
He was at Camp LaJeune in June 1955, after returning from a little more than a year in Korea. He was in boot camp in San Diego in March 1952. He was in the USMC from March 1952 through March 1955. He was injured when a gun he was using backfired.
I have his DD214 papers and it says he was proof technician, mobile artillery. Can anyone tell me what this is? Where can I tell on DD214 papers what unit he was in?
My Dad only told me a few stories about Korea, ..... He told me about the rats getting in his sleeping bag, about how he got injured by a gun, he told me that one of the guys in his unit had a pet monkey, he talked about how his socks rotted on his feet when he was in Korea, he said the enemy cooked their bulldog the unit had over a fire, he said he spent his birthday in a fox hole, he watched his friends get shot right beside him, and about the only person he mentioned was a guy that went by the name rat face....
After reading the posts I feel lucky to have these tidbits of stories I squeezed out of my Dad over the years.
My Mom said to him once she wished she knew him before he went to Korea because she would have wrote him all the time. My Dad's comment was I would'nt have made it. He said that it seemed that anyone who had a girl to go home to died in Korea.
I just want to thank all of the men and women who have fought and are fighting right now for our country.

Thanks for any info
Susan Adkins
