Serial #1205630 United States Marine Corp. I wish I could
go and train the young Marines like I was trained in 1951.
I tried to re-enlist at the age of 72 but the recruiters
said I was a little past the age.

I served with Cpl Odell Price(Lansing, Mich.), Terrance Duval(Rahway New Jersey), Cummingham(Ohio), Sgt Green(our platoon sergeant) at South Camp Fuji Japan from approx. from early 1955 to early 1957. We were in the 3rd Infantry Platoon of Alpha Company 3rd Division, stationed at South Fuji Japan. I was shipped out to Saudi Arabia in Feb. 1957. I never returned to duty at camp Fuji, instead, I was returned to the states to report to LFTU at Little Creek Virginia. During this tome, all of my buddies referred to me as 'Smitty" except Price who omitted the "S" and called me Mitty.

I served with C/1/5 IstMar Div.inKorea Sept-Nov 1950.One of my best friends in the 3rd Plt. was an African American
Marine,Harrison J.Batiste 988817.He was there in Nov.1950 when I was severly wounded & was retired from the Corps.
I last saw him at the Earl NJ amumition depot in 1951.We lost contact untill 1992,When he wrote me a letter.I called him at his home in Galverston TX.WE talked for over an hour.He told me he stayed in the Corps, did 2 tours in Nam and retired from the Marines. We planed to get togeather at the Chosin few Reunion in New Orleans in Dec. 1992.But Harrison passed away just after our phone conv.
