Late April early May 1956 the largest exercise ever held at Camp Pendleton
took place. In the exercise an amtrac from 1st Amphib Recon sank upon leaving
the LST. WE were sixth in line behind it and didn't see it happen but were
held in line for a long time before they decided to send the rest of us off.We
found out about it during the exercise.

I am looking for anyone who knew Staff Sgt Arvil G Welch, Support Battalion 22
Area, or his family. He was from Texas, possibly Ft Worth or Franklin, and I
don't know much more about him. Looking to find out if he might be a long lost
relative of my wife. He was born September 17, 1934.

I went through TTU Coronado in 1955 then to Camp Pendleton
Kaneohe Bay Hawaii. When we came back from Hawaii the
company was disbanded they said it was lack of funds. I'm
sorry I really don't remember anybody's name. it's getting
that time in life I guess. sorry I couldn't be of more help.
would you have our logo it seems to be different than what I
can find on the Internet.

thank you,
Charlie 'Gene' Jett

I am trying to find any and all men who were in 1st Amph. Recon. in 1955
through 1956 especially Butch Bowe. Anyone remembering the tragic
drownings on a field problem
in 55 or 56 at Camp Pendelton, I would like to hear from as well. I was in
com. plt. When thinking back to my recon days I think of the great comraderie
and the great time I had in that wonderful group of guys.
