I am looking for my shipmates from the USS Prairie during 1962-1963 and 1964-1966. I was a BT in the Aft Fire Room. I would love to hear from any of my shipmates during this time. There is an upcoming reunion for the USS Prairie in Sarasota Springs, NY 28 September 2008 and would like to attend. Has anyone else heard of this? i can be reached via email at pdd1019@aol.com.

Look forward to hearing from someone!

Mr. Smith, I'm writting on behalf of my children ( by marriage )about your Monkey.
My children's father, Richard F. ' Dicky ' William was killed in an auto accident in 67. He did not marry my wife until 4 years after he got out of the Navy ( 1955 ) and we have several pictures of the Monkey, one with him holding it! He discharged off the DD Stickell in Dec. 51
but when he entered in 47, the Stickell went into dry dock the next year. I thought he was on the Prairie as he had a lot of picture's of it and it's sister ships.
He is listed as a ' deck hand ' in his discharged papers
but told the story of the Monkey all the time. You wouldn't have known him, would you? If so, my kids would like to know more about their father's Korean War Service. Further, there is a picture of him and a Smith and thought it might be you?
Thank you for any info you might share!
George
PS: Did the Monkey really fall in the soup kettle??
