Subic Bay...Remember it well. I believe it was a radio news commentator, who at the time many of us were there,(1952-54) said, 'Subic Bay....An officer's paradise, a chief's haven, and a white hat's hell. Remember it well. Served aboard the USS Mark AKL12, in the engine room. I can still remember the heat, the smell of diesel, and the parties in Alongapo.
I'm looking for an old shipmate who served on the Mark with me. His name was Lawrenace (L.C.) Sides. After Subic, I believe he went into Sub duty. A damned good friend who made a sailor out of me.
