Does the Yorktown have a Website address? I know she is docked at Charlestown, SC and is available for touring.
The ready room on the Yorktown now has the chairs from the USS Monterey CVL-26 and they are the same ones I sat in in 1953-54 when I was on board the Monterey in Pensacola, Florida.

Don't know about he Yorktown turning around & goin back to port. I left her in March 55. Yorktown is a historical ship in Charlston, South Carolina. I went aboard her there a few years ago. It was eerie to walk down the deserted flight deck.

Does anyone remember YORKTOWN leaving Yokosuka in September 1956 with Marines for return trip to states, then 2-3 days out, turn around and return to port? The Marines were offloaded to USS WHITESIDE AKA-90 for return trip to states and would like to know why YORKTOWN returned to port; where she is today?
