Joined the ship after finishing school in San Diego (1952)
I was a designated PM3 I was on the upper deck in the
Carpentry shop, major goals making patterns ( wood forms )
to be sent to the foundry to be poured, then off to the
machine shop for machining, when repairs had to be made on
our launces I was assigned the job with others, I was
involved in damage control,and firefighting.
I did like being on the USS Frontier, met many good friends
had a very good time I remained on board until my time for
discharge May 25,1955 I enlisted in 1951, loved my duties.

I went aboard the Frontier at San Francisco January 1951.
Served there until discharge, June 1954. This was all
during the Korean War. It is sad to see all the political
correction of today. As Margaret Thatcher once said:
America is great a winning wars, but poor on the
settlemets. Now we have corrupt politicians (and President)
leading America very
badly.

Billy R. Folston served on the Frontier during these periods. He recently died of Mesothelioma. Need to find shipmates that served during this time period. I desperately need your help. Thank you for your quick reply. Mrs. B R Folston

Hi Laura,

I just learned how to operate this computer, with the help of my granddaughter, so please excuse the fact that this note is about 5 years late. Like they say, 'Better late than never!!'

My name is Ken Morgan, I served aboard the USS Frontier, in the carpenter shop, from 1954 until about June of 1956. Although I did not know your father while on board, I probably met him either in the mess hall, or in some line of KP duty, as I spent some time peeling spuds and breaking eggs because of some ship's rules infractions that I might have been involved in.

We always looked up to the cooks. The chow was always very good, especially on those days we had steak 'n eggs for breakfast. I also remember the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners they prepared for us.

During this period, I know we made trips to Japan, Hong Kong and a few other ports of call. We also spent quite a bit of time at sea in good as well as in foul weather. But overall, it was a good time, due in part to the ship's cooks.

Good to hear about an old shipmate, and he should be very proud, which I am sure he is, to have a daughter who shows such interest in wanting to document his life.

I am trying to help my mother-in-law prepare a birthday surprise for my father-in-law, Alex (Tommy) Thomas, who served in the Korean War. We want to find as much information as possible about the crew on his ship and give him some contacts of old shipmates.
Please, bear with me, my mother-in-law gave me this information over the phone and she was looking at a blurry copy of some records and, I don't know a thing about these abbreviations and what all is needed. I will give you what I have and hopefully, you can make sense of it. Excuse the capital lettering, if it wasn't necessary, but this is the way it read on the papers.
Anyone having any information, please e-mail me at lethomas2@juno.com. Thank you.
Here's the info:
Father-in-law's name: Alex Vasilias Thomas (nickname "Tommy")
He was stationed at RECSTA L BEACH California
Component & Branch or Class: US NRRU
Component & Class: USN-UL
He enlisted: 7/13/51 in Little Rock, Arkansas
Most significant duty assignment: USS FRONTIER AD25
At Sea: June 19, 1954
Served for 4 years
He was a Cook
His release date was 7/5/55
Rank and Grade: COMMISSARY SEAMAN
I THINK this was his commanding officer: C.S. Taylor

Thank you for time,
Laura Thomas
