Comments:

My father LarryFlynn was activated from USNR and served aboard Hamner as a
Chief Petty Officer during Korea mid late 1950 or so. Unable to find more
detail. He served 5 + years during WW2 having enlisted prior to Pearl Harbor.
Have some photos from Hamner time.

I served on the DD-718 as the Mail Man from 1952 thru 1953. We were ported in
Yokosuka Japan. Spent time in Wonsan Harbor in north Korea as cruiser escort
there, think it was Helena. Also hit Hong Kong and all ports between. Had R&R
at Mount Fuji resort. Later transfered to USS Askari, a converted LST to a
machine shop to lend maintenance support to who ever need repair. Got out in
1955 as 2nd Class Teleman. Spent 4 more years in Navy Reserve..
Probably only one still around now, going on 88.

Comments:

I am looking for any information or any of my father's
shipmates that served with him aboard the USS Hamner DD718
during Korea. He was a Sonarman Second Class. He was born
and raised in Livingston Montana. He had nicknames of Red,
Little Red or Big Red. He passed away in 1966,
unexpectedly. Prior to the Korean War, he served in the US
Army and was stationed in the Occupation Army in Japan.
After this he joined the Navy Reserve until he was called
to serve for Korea. Prior to his service in the Navy he
work for Mountain Bell(phone company) in Livingston
Montana. If anyone has any information I would greatly
appreciate it. Unfortunately he passed away when I was 4
and I never had the chance to hear any of his stories while
he was in either the Army or the Navy. Thank you all.
