Greetings,
I was born Shaun Ryan Durham. My grandfather CW3 Fred T Durham was stationed in
Camp St Barbara Korea. 2nd Battalion 76th Artillery 67-68. He and my grandmother
via the United States Army adopted my mother from the orphanage that was there
very near Camp St. Barbara. He then went on to Vietnam CW2 (HQ&HQ). Served as an
member of 1st Aviation Golden Hawks, attached to 281st AHC and flew helicopter
combat missions with the 268th Combat Aviation Battalion, (Statim Nos Agimus) he
earned an Bronze star for ground combat and earned his air medal for combat
flights. He resided his family in Wakulla County Florida (buried in his hometown
of Quincy, FL.) My Korean adopted mother straight out of the war zone met my
indigenous Chamorro father from the island of Guam. He abandoned me and my
mother is why I was born and carried the Durham last name for Two years before
my dad was in an horrible accident and he weaseled his way back into our lives,
married my mother, took me to Guam and had my name changed to his last name. I
was my Korean adopted mother’s First born child in America here in TLH FL. Born
on Friday 13,JAN.1984. The significance of it all is that 13,JAN. is National
Korean American day. Thank you to all my Grandpa’s brothers at arms. Thank you
for the opportunity you all gave to my peoples/countries and thank you for
fighting to uphold our constitutional rights and privilege that we must fight so
hard to keep due to unethical, immoral, dishonest, corrupt, abuser police and
the good ole boy courts. I appreciate what you all did to serve and protect us
all here as Americans.

I was at the 55 MP detachment at Camp St Barbra mid 63 to Feb. 64. Some didn't
know if you continued on the road past the firing range you would be on the
DMZ. I traveled the DMZ touring much of the area. There were plenty of
checkpoints to go through. Some were American but most were Korean. That's why
we had a Katusa patrolled with us for freedom of movement. After Feb. it was
back to Red Cloud for a Court Marshell. Ha ha ha What a farce that was.

I filed for VA Benefits due to Agent Orange Exposure (Type II Diabetes) and
was denied. It is my understanding that Camp Saint Barbara's location was
the northernmost and closest to the DMZ. Agent Orange was used along the DMZ
during 1968 and 1969, all due to the Pueblo Incident/Crisis.

I was in Signal Maintenance HQ Co 51st Signal Bn Uijongbu
from Jan 63 to Jan 64. 51st had sites on all bases near the
DMZ, including Santa Barbara. One day we were informed that
there was a major problem with equipment at Santa Barbara,
so they decided to send me up there with my TS-352 and my
toolbox. Normally we would go by road in a Jeep or three-
quarter, or hitch a ride in a deuce and a half, but they
thought it would take too long by road, so they sent me
down to the airfield where I took the only helicopter ride
of my life, from Uijongbu to Santa Barbara. We fixed the
problem at the TCC-7 van and never went up the hill to the
TRC-24 van. I hitched a ride back to Uijongbu by road.

Hello Mark,
Saw your note on the web. I was at camp St. Barbara from 1960 until '62. Taum Dong, the snobby Donut Dollies, the Katusa's, I remember it all, plus the stench of kimchi. I have a few pics of the camp, too. Sure would like to see yours.
Best regards, vet,
Marvin Meyerhoffer
