I was part of the original 6th aviation platoon as a crew chief. We were on
alert to pick up the guys from the Pueblo so we flew back from camping out in
the mountains transporting south Koreans. I ets'd by extending 2 months after
having a re up talk by Sgt. Jimmy Sutterfield. Went to Vietnam for about 3
years fixing hueys as a civilian. Retired from being a HVAC contractor in
Florida and now hanging out in Arkansas.

I was shipped to 6th Aviation Platoon In January 1969. I suffered a knee
injury in June 1969 in a fall from one of our Hueys. The damage was serious,
torn ACL and MCL along with a cartilage tear. I was shipped to Okinawa for
surgery and returned to the states for recovery. In May of 1970 I received
orders for Vietnam ans served a year there with the 176th Assault Helicopter
company as a Crew Chief. I was born in Miami so Vietnam's shooting was much
more my style the the cold of Korea.

As I stated in a previous entry I was one of the original
group that came from the 134th Av. Co. to form the 6th
Avn.Plt. I was with the 6th from Nov. 67-Nov 68. Many years
have passed but the crew we lost in Nov of 68 still stays
in my memory. Every Nov. the memory seems to become my
almost every thought. I've stayed in touch with many
members of the platoon. Gary Holz's father and sister has
passed away. To all who served with the 6th Avn.Plt. it was
a great unit to say you were a part of it. I have the year
book(68) and articles written about the unit. I have
pictures of the only parts ever found from the crash. RIP
my departed friends. 1SG (Ret) Jimmy Sutterfield

My brother Spec. 4 Terence D. (Terry) Miller, a crew chief
and door gunner, died in the Huey crash in the Sea of Japan
Nov. 27, 1968. For some reason he is listed as from West
Virginia. He was a Minnesota boy, raised in Minneapolis, and
had married there a year and a week before he died. Just for
the record!

I was one of the "originals" that came from the 134th Avn.
Company at Ft. Bragg, NC. I was a crew chief from Dec 67-
March of 68. I then became Maint. NCO unit for the unit
until attending 7th Div. NCO Academy. I was there when they
tried to assassinate Park, Pueblo was captured and when the
invasion happened on the east coast. I was in the field
with the detachment flying as C/E when we lost the UH-1 and
crew in the Sea of Japan. I have pictures of the only part
of the aircraft that was ever recovered, the M/R hub and
Blades. I was a "lifer" and retired in 1983 as an E-8. To
all past members who served in the 6th Avn. Plt. God
bless , we were the best at that time.

I believe the crash incident you are talking about occurred on 27 November 1968. The five soldiers listed as killed that day were:

Edwards, Richard V., Massachusetts, died 27-Nov-68
Holz, Gary A., Wisconsin, died 27-Nov-68
Ingram, Julius H., West Virginia, died 27-Nov-68
Miller, Terence D., West Virginia, died 27-Nov-68
Smith, William L., Massachusetts, died 27-Nov-68

You might try visiting the Pacific Stars & Stripes web site and asking them if they have an article in their archives about the crash. The URL is:

www.pstripes.com

Send an email that tells them what you are look for to: information@stripes.osd.mil

Good luck,
Mike Davino
