DMZ Vets, I was with B Co 1/503 from Oct 88- Oct 89 and did two DMZ missions. I
requested the CIB/combat patch/deployment patch recognition for being in a
combat/ hostile zone, and the U.S. Army Chief of Staff, denied my request due to
an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) code classifying the DMZ as a tax zone in 88-
89. The letter from the Chief of Staff did not deny the incidents I reported,
but based the Army's decision for CIB/combat/hostile service recognition on
taxes. Yes taxes! I also, want to thank Hal and his brother for this website,
and for fighting for us in Congress.

If you were deployed between 65-74 I believe you are eligible for the Armed Foces
Expeditionary Medal.
Korean service for this period by act of congress may wear both the Korean Defense
Medal and th AFEM at the same time.
The is the only time this was allowed.
