I remember General Bonesteel quite well. I was stationed at Camp Stanley from June 1967 to August 1968. I worked in the Group Headquarters at HHC 36th Engineer Groups (Combat). General Bonesteel would occasionally visit the Group Commander, Colonel Kenneth Jordan, the ranking engineer officer in I Corps. General Bonesteel was an imposing figure of a man, very tall, proudly wearing four stars on his uniform and his distinctive eye patch. At the time, he was 8th Army Commander-in-Chief.

Looking for any information on General Charles H. Bonesteel, III. I am working on a book and met the general in 1968-69. Anyone who knew or remembers General Bonesteel would appreciate your recollections. He was a cerebral officer who was good at operational strategy as well as politics. Retired in 1969, passed away 1977, buried at Arlington.
Bonesteel (eyepatch over left eye due to detached retina) was in command during Blue House, USS Pueblo, and EC-121 crises. You can e-mail me at ftims@aol.com, or post here.
