Recieved HSM for Operations TRANSFER & SHEEBA 1. almost 35 years after the
fact. Sent SF180 in with copy of BN CDR signed award, specifying flood relief
effort. Got DD215 back in a couple months reflecting HSM.

Comments:

Prior to my retirement I tried to track this down.
I did find that the Unit, in my case HHC, 1/38 INF issued
the HSM on a "By Name List" and that the S-1 should have
had a copy of the issuance. When I tracked the unit down
again I found they had been re-flagged and the unit was
reactivated in Fort Benning, GA. I tried getting it by
contacting the S-1, and they had no records of the HSM
issuance but they indicated that they would look into it
by searching the Historical Documents. To date, I have
nothing to show for it.

I was hoping to have contact with someone that was issued
the HSM for this and see if they had the a copy of the
"By Name List" with their citation.

So far... nothing.

In reference to the Humanitarian Service Medal, proof is
that you participate or directly involved in the operation
in which you received a letter of commendation or NCO
Evaluation.

Check AR 600-8-22 for Military Awards. Requirements for
Humanitarian Medal for Approved DOD or DA on page 33.
Operation for September 29-30 1984 South Korea Flood Relief
was known as Operations Transfer & Sheeba 1 & Geographic
Area, South Korea on Table C, Page 155. The only way you
will received this award; If you received a letter of
commendation or mention on your NCO Evaluation. I been
denied recently. If you were in Korea during that time
period, submit your request for the HSM on the address
provide on page 33. Also sent a copy to your Congressman.
Not too many servicemen or women are aware of this award.
The more letters requesting for the Humanitarian Medal,
just maybe DOD or the DA will make some changes for the
Humanitarian Medal. Let me if any anyone received the
award. Good Luck.
