'Alpha Manchu', Alpha 1/9 and JSA

Came over from Fort Ord, 7th Infantry in February 1984. Crazy stuff, Alpha 1/9
had a great softball team, NK defector and shootout day before Thanksgiving
1984, lots and lots of humpin Yamas, guard duty, time spent with the JSA, and
only 9 days off in over a year. Serious stuff over there that people over here
rarely here about.

Comments:

I was assigned to Alpha Co 1/9 the end of 85 and we walked
into a mine-field and a new turtle stepped on a mind blowing
his leg off. The screams and cries were heart wrenching
because we were not allowed to move or help him. We were all
in danger because the area was full of mines.. ( thanks LT
).. We did retrace our steps and backed out of the area. DOC
was able to get to the turtle and help till Medivac arrived.
That DOC was a brave Soldier.
