My father was Sylvester Lynn Marchant

he did not like to be referred by his first name. he was in the Korean War but did
not talk about it much. he said that he ran communication wires between gun
emplacements. I think he was at the Chosan reservoir. he said that every one of
the enemy had a ball of rice in their pocket. I miss him & want to find anything I
can about what he went through. thank you.

My grandfather, Arthur Bernard Pagels, served in the US Army from 1951 -
1953 in Seoul, South Korea. I have pictures. He is not Arthur Victor Pagels,
who also served in the Korean War during the same time, my grandfather
enlisted as “A Pagels” and told my family stories of combat situations very
rarely, but they were told. He was a Corporal. He passed away on Easter
Sunday on 1990 at the age of 60, leaving my father, the youngest of three
children, at home with his mother, Joan, while he was still finishing high
school and was a senior at the time. My grandfather also was an electrician
for BayShip Builders and worked on ships for the Shah of Iran, before the
Iranian Revolution, and was even arrested falsely while their, but was
released soon thereafter. He was well respected and participated in three-
volley salutes at funerals upon request. He would deeply enjoy my
commemoration of saving his history in any way possible. Thanks for having
me.

After some more research on the military service of my father Hubert L
Hester, I have come to several conclusions, 1st I believe he trained in
Brooke Army Medical Center around 1947 or 1948. I believe he served as a
field medic while he was in Korea and lastly I think he was some where near
Inchon.
All of these thoughts are based on my few memories of him talking about his
time in the Army and reading some of the articles about military service in
San Antonio Tx.
Hubert L Hester was raised in Greenville, SC and joined the Army when he was
16 or 17 years old.
When he was discharged he lived in Newberry, SC for a short time them moved
to Abbeville, SC where he earned his GED.
He married my mother Reba E Gilmer while living in Abbeville.
If you know anthing about his military please contact me at:

My dad, Hubert L Hester from Greenville, SC was in Korea in 1951. I know his
tour of duty was extended so don't know how long he was there. His mother had
tuberculois and was allowed to return home for a short visit before she died.
I think when he joined he did basic training in Texas while in the Army. His
records were destroyed in a fire and I am trying to rebuild his military
history. I would like to know what unit he was in and what his role was for
his unit. He did not talk about his experiences before he died.
Any help would be very appreciated. Please contact me at:
