Comments:

I was on the DMZ clearing the mine fields and building the fence. Replacing the mine fields on both sides.
I also had an incident with the towers that I built. We were repairing the fence where Charlie came through and when they changed guards, they shot at us. They didn't tell the new guards we were there and they opened fire on us. Nobody was hit. The CO heard the shots and stopped them from firing at us.
I was there in 67 & 68, 2nd eng bn C company.
Six guys lost their legs on the mines in the rain. Our company refused to go in the mine fields until we had boots, combat/hazard duty pay, think it was General Bonesteel that flew in on a helicopter and promised us what we wanted. Got Nam jungle boots, but we did get the pay.

(CAPTAIN) PHIL STEWARD - wrote on February 27, 2007

Comments:

Hello - I was Company Commander of E Co., 2d Engineer Bn, 2 ID from May to Dec 1969. We were in Artillary Valley and built and maintained the floating bridge at the Spoonbill. Prior to that I was Heavy Junk Platoon Leader and Bn Maint. Officer at HQ in Camp Peterson.

I was the ILD Investigating Officer on several AP mine detonations involving 2d Eng. Bn Personnel in the clearing ops. inside the fence. I was also the 2d Eng. Bn officer in the investigation of the Guard Tower Colapse in A Company's sector (they built the tower) that killed one Inf Soldier and injured two others. Sorry - I don't recall the names.

I also became Commander of the Imjin River Police (Patrol Boats) in about June 1969 to December 1969. Would like to hear from you and any others from 2d Eng. Bn.

Especially looking for anyone who served in 1967 - 1970 in 2d Eng Bn or worked any with 2d Engineer units who have been approved on an Agent Orange Claim or have a claim pending. I have some documentation and we need to share more - photos, letters, orders, news articles are needed for several of our brothers.

Thanks
