I was in B-btry 1/38 camp Stanley Jan 81 to Jan 82 . Did 30 days at 4papa1. An
experience I will never forget. The first day we probably had 10 speedballs. The
only place I pulled guard duty with live ammo and grenades. Still have plenty of
pictures.

August 18, 1976 - 1977, C-Btry 2/17 FA, Camp Pelham, 105MM / 102A1
4P1 Rotation - Many!, Operation Paul Bunyan - Yes, Did not leave the D for a
month, Guns setup in Pepper patch near camp Liberty Bell, got to go to 4P1 to take
shower until C-Btry turn at 4P1. Did not see Camp Pelham for over 6 weeks. But 3
weeks in when we were in the pepper patch. I did get to go back to the rear with
supply Sgt. to get supplies. He let me get out in the vill ( Sonjuri ) and I went
in the Tea house that was across from Paradise club ( i think). And grabbed a
chick and got laid. Got back to the D and sure enough next morning (good ole drip-
a-dick) it took 3 days before the Medic could fire me up with 2 silver bullets. Oh
yeah, I was just 17 also! Good Times!

I served at Camp Stanley, Korea with 1st Battalion 38th Field Artillery "STEEL
BEHIND THE ROK" from 1979 to 1980. I did 2 Tours at U.S. Army's Only Firebase
4 Papa 1 with live ammunitions. The sometimes late night Firing Drills were
Tedious because it was just Practice. One Night we were Ordered to Fire 2
Rounds of Live 105mm Illumination Artillery Rounds for Real on the North
Korean Border.

Anyone from A 1/15 FA, 1971 that needs proof of DMZ
service,
I still have hostile fire pay orders from April and
December 1971. We went to 4P1 more than that but those are
what I kept.

Comments:

Did 3 tours @ 4P1; OCT 79, JUN 80, & Dec 80. I was in the
FDC bunker (13E) & in DEC 80 was Section Chief. I was given
the opportunity to visit both Outpost 2 & Outpost 1. It was
interesting that I was given a guided exception tour of OP1.
Apparently it was the rarest of rare for an enlisted to been
given that opportunity. Most advanced land telescope at the
time. They let me look through it and sat the pimples on the
enemy's face as he was sitting in his forward observation post
as well. OP1 had playboy centerfolds taped to the window
facing north. Apparently the N.Korean soldiers would get
worked up over them (enraged). I also Remember Propaganda
Village from that time.

I spent the month of September 1973 at 4P1 with 1/15th Arty. My unit also did a lot of target surveying and zeroing north of the Imjin throughout the year. Where was 3P1 in relation to 4P1? I heard of it and probably was there.
