I was in Korea in Mechanized Infantry units in 1970-71. First I was in 1st of the
17th, 7th Division, who went through a rif while I was there, from 50,000 troops,
as I understand it, to 30,000. 7th Division was deactivated. Many people went
home, but I had too long left on my tour, so I was transferred to 2nd of the
138th, 2nd Division. Because so many officers were short timers, and transferred
to the USA for discharge, I was promoted (I guess) to Company Commander at some
point. My unit guarded Libby bridge in the winter of 70-71.

I was in BLV, Aug, 68, until Sept. 69, it was a beautiful place in the summer
time, but cold as the anarchic in the winter. I made a lot of good friends in
korea, I really hated when my tour was up. If I had the opportunity, I would love
to go back.

Good to hear from you, Barry Olsan. Yes, Blue Lancer Valley was the hidden gem.
I loved that tour, but I froze in the winter. The DMZ was the most peaceful place
I have ever been except for certain times. It was the Garden of Eden, but with
two-legged ants that carried PPS/PPSK rifles.

I remember being in BLV on July 4, 1968 and seeing some great fireworks that
night. The real fireworks were up on the DMZ, where our unit 2/38th Inf saw
some action between 1967-69. Served in C Company as a Patrol Leader with Lt.
Darrell Pickett.

I was TDY (with no orders) to Blue Lancer Valley as the
driver for the ambulance supplied by Co. B, 2nd Medical
Battalion from May, 1968 through most of February, 1969. I
worked as a Corpsman with both the 2/38th and 1/23rd in the
BLV Dispensary and provided medical transport as required.
On occasion, I would be sent across the Imjin in support of
the units who had rotates north to the DMZ. I shared a hutch
with the medical support team, including several KATUSAs,
and worked with a bunch of great guys. I don't miss the
stifling summer heat, or the winter cold, though. Be well,
brothers.

Hello again,

I am back with some of the same info from my last posting
and a few new things that may help some of you help me
identify what company I was with from June 1962 - July
1963:
CO Cpt. Frank Underwood - 1st Sgt Rodrigeus
81mm Section Leader, Sgt. Delgado. Other Company members
were Nathan Ski Kilowski,Pisano. My hutch was on a
ridgeline and at the bottom of a long stairway was the
bathroom / showers. The other company facilities were all
on that same level, Mess Hall, Orderly Room, etc! one last
item, during that year I passed the exam for an Expert
Infantry Badge.

I am sure that I was stationed at Camp Blue Lancer Valley
from June of 62 to July 63. I remember the lay out of the
camp, and the Village of Nullo-ri.I am fairly certain that
I was in the 5th or 12th Cav; probably the 12tth Cav. But I
can't remember the companies designation, although Frank
Underwood was company commander, the 1st Sgt. was Rodrigues,
and Sgt Delgado was the section leader of the 81mm Mortar
Section. T was the FDC. I also rememeber other guys from the
company; Kolowski (I think), Nathan, and Pisano. Does anyone
remember Lucey from Nullo-ri?
