Arrived 1/17th, at Camp McKenzie, early November 1971.
Initially assigned to Rat Patrol, CS company(HQ). I was
later given the option of any staff section of Bn, S-1,2,3,
or 4. I opted for S-4 and was the Property Book NCO. When
we closed McKenzie, in August of 72, I was the last
American to leave that Post. I stayed, along with ROK
guards, to insure all property was removed before the
SlickyBoys and BlackMarket (CIA) thieves made off with
every ounce of metal. We then moved to Howze, where I
remained until Dec 14, 1972....PCS to 1st Cav, Ft Hood. I
still have the yearbooks from McKenzie and Howze, and
remain in contact with Hershel Busby. My best friend Mike
Douglas, also of the unit, died of brain cancer June 2012.

Equality with respect to Veteran dioxin exposure
presumption for all Veterans. Many are seniors, some are
offspring and spouses, and too many have already died or
will die younger than they should! Finish the wars we have
at home with the DVA! The DVA needs to live up to its
published mission statement. The DVA has the proof in their
claims and decision records.

Dioxins are from Agent Orange / Rainbow - Tactical
Herbicides, some PCB's and insecticides. They were used to
defoliate / defend perimeter fence lines around bases and
TAC sites, prevent fires, hydraulic fluids, electrical
equipment, cleaning fluids and to control insects / pests.
Currently many vets are not getting these benefits as many
exposed units are not listed for many locations, many
countries; poor, destroyed, classified and lost records
(per DOD). Also found in soil and well water at many U.S.
bases. Dioxin is one cause of many medical conditions. The
DVA acts like the DOD said all other units not exposed. In
many locations and time frames the DVA assumes that units
were not exposed or that the vet served there, when the DOD
only fails to find the data that confirms exposure or that
service occurred, a low priority for the DOD and due poor,
lost, classified and missing decades old records.

If an effected vet make sure you add your statement in
comment area too!

I am hoping that someone in DC realizes that if this is
done they would not have to admit to any specific US or
other location being contaminated and also not release any
classified data, while still enabling vets their decades
overdue and just benefits. They should only then need to
prove they are a vet, spouse or offspring and have a
recognized medical condition(s) during the decades
contamination occurred. Remember that most vets were at
several locations between Basic, AIT to discharge time.
Overseas duty also meant going through a couple locations
and being on some form of military travel that may have
been contaminated somewhere.

I was in D 2/71st 38th ADA HAWK 1971 on defoliated Tac2
Site 34 (about 11 mi from DMZ)(I saw being sprayed) and was
denied, DVA used my Camp Red Cloud APO as being too far at
20 mi. for NEAR the DMZ. In two other appeals the DOD and
VA conceded Camp Red Cloud NEAR the DMZ and area was
sprayed?

I was stationed in Korea from Dec. 71 thru Jan.1973 on the
Korean DMZ. I was assigned to the HHC 1/17th Infantry Recon
Platoon, 2nd Infantry (Mech)at Camp McKenzie, South Korea.
"Go Scouts"!!! I was also assigned to the 2nd M.P Company,
4th Platoon at Camp Pelham at Sonjuri, South Korea. I
briefly did an OJT assignment as a M.P. from mid-Dec 71 thru
mid-March 72 which was a racial tension period. In late
March 72 I was sent back to my line unit at Camp McKenzie.
During my stay at Camp McKenzie, myself my Recon Platoon did
countless patrols on the DMZ perimeter and once my squad got
lost on patrol an wound up on the DMZ but that's already TMI .

I served with Company B , 2nd Eng ( Combat ) Bn ,2nd Inf Div
from Jan 1967 - Feb 1968. My company served on and along the
DMZ from March of 196 through Dec 196 performing operations
to enclude building the BARRIER FENCE along the south tape .
Clearing mine fields along the south tape. servicing OP
Dort,OP Mazie guard towers. While erecting the barrier fence
in the summer of 1967 ( June 1967 ) & ( Aug 10 , 1967 ) my
platoon along with members of ( i believe ) 1/23 Inf, 2nd
Inf Div who were loaned out to the 2nd Engs to assist in
cutting sapling trees were ambushed resulting in 3 killed ,
16 wounded , all of the casualties being members of 1/23 Inf
as they arrived on trucks at our work site to cut trees. We
had grenades hurled in on us followed by fully auto small
arms fire. by North Koreans while working along the DMZ.I
was awarded the IMJIN SCOUT CERTIFICATE in July 1967 along
with several other members of my Company. Many of us were
sent home at the end of our tours with NOTHING in the way of
awards, NOT EVEN the right to wear the 2nd Inf Div combat
patch on our right shoulder once re-assigned to state side
duty stations. Hold your heads high Brothers ,your task was
well done. THE SECOND KOREAN WAR censured by U.S. Government

Hi I spent almost 15mo. in Korea &was in a couple of fire fights. The zone was a hell of a place to run a patrol in. The old trick of asking for permissiom to fire was in effect when I was their. When you finnaly got permission you told them the body count if you could. 67& 68 were the best years to be their if you wanted action. I got hit twice and am being treated for P.T.S.D. also might have diabetis from agent orange. Going to get that checked out. So give me a call I'll talk to you it's good theraphy for me. ED
