Hi RON, I think we are talking about the same incident.
>>>Richard,
What a chill. You mention the Easter Sunday ambush in '68. I was in the first 3/4ton going in. We were the detachment of QRF just outside of JSA. I can remember it like yesterday....
As we approached the area of the road where the incident took place, an ambulance came booking past us. There was a nurse (female, Swedish uniform??) holding up a bottle of plasma. The ambulance was rocking side to side, as were the occupants, and gear. This was after my return to my original unit, after the washpoint ordeal. I knew we were in for some crap. QRF, buena suerte!!!
Battalion TOC radioed and told us to hold a perimeter around the attack area. It was like an hour or so before daybreak when reinforcements arrived, and we were to pursue. We did a sweep with about 125 men, most from the 2/38 and 1/9th. Being an EAGLE scout (for real) I was on point in my area. We were on the right trail. The brush and broken ground was easy to follow. We got a call "wait for the bloodhounds to lead the trackers." HUH? We were like about 1/2 an hour behind the NK, and as usual we get the Army 'Hurry up and wait.'
I know the dangers you face going into those areas to assist the locals. Your armed with a stethoscope and syringe. Hey just because I'm 25 pounds heavier don't change my aim. Pop a m-14 in a flash. I AM your backdoor.
Stay in touch, Curt.
