As anyone connected to the Army 31st RCT knows, the 5th Marine Regiment did not move 'from east...to Yudam-ni on 11/26' Why not is a burning question? The 31st was delayed outside of Hagaru-ri and lost vital daylight hours, while waiting for 2/3rds [2 battalions] of the 5th to relocate from east of Chosin on 11/27. The 5th taking two days to do the work of one.

In the above response, there seems to be a discrepency as to the role of the 5th Marine Regiment. As atated...'moved up to reinforce the 7th Marines.' [while that is true fact, that is not what is promulgated as fact by the corps history, but, the early withdrawal of the 7th justifies the maps.] All maps from marine corps history place the 5th Marine Regiment in 'front' of the 7th Marines, and the 7th reinforcing them, on the west side of Chosin. Check maps, page 259, 300; The Dragon Strikes: by MArine Major Patrick C, Roe. What is fact here?
After 50 years, please lets get it right.

At the end of Appleman's book East of Chosin, he states that the circumstances leading to the disaster east of Chosin is not documented in records. I have been collecting data about those circumstances. This didn't just happen, we were not dropped into this area of conflict. What was the reason? What was the cause? Anyone interested in these answers, contact me at the above aol address. I have information available to send you. I was with the 57th FA. Bn. at Chosin. Ray.
