I am looking for any official records to validate my uncle’s Korean War service. His name was Jones C. McCall from Pelzer, SC. In 1993, I reviewed (2) partially dated newspaper articles that were in a scrapbook in the possession of his wife. The first article was partially dated as 2/28/_ It stated that Jones McCall had received the CIB (Combat Infantry Badge) and Bronze Star Medal. The second article partially dated 7/5/_ stated that Jones McCall had received the Oak Leaf Cluster of the Bronze Star with "V" device while serving with Co. A, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3ª Infantry Division on 4 Feb_ This article stated, While attending a series of enemy emplacements near Samgo-RI, Korea, his unit came under heavy fire. Although wounded himself, Lt. McCall crawled thru enemy fire to the forward battalion aid station where he secured vitally needed medical and liter personnel and returned to his stricken men. He was responsible for saving the lives of (4) soldiers. It is my understanding that he received a field commission from Sgt to Lt. for this act of bravery. His official records were destroyed in the 1973 St Louis fire.
