My dad, Joseph J Meising worked in a hospital at Camp Haugen 51-53. He was 6’1” and had a 6 foot smile. Went by the name Jim. He is now 91 and still lives in Pittsburgh. He has stories of a movie theater fire. He also recalls caring for twin babies born to an officers wife prematurely and were in grave condition. Dad, being a twin himself went without sleep (possibly over the Christmas season) many nights to watch over ‘his patients’. Having no medical training, a builder by trade, he loved working in the hospital.
His records were lost in 1973 fire. We only have his memories, and would love to know more.
He was not in the medical field, and was randomly selected with another man. It’s always stuck with me that that decision could have reshaped the existence of our entire family.
Since Japan he would not go on a ship or boat nor board a plane.
